ABOUT OUR BUSINESS
I have worked in the non-profit church field as an accountant for over twenty years. I have a degree in accounting with a specialization in non-profit accounting from Pittsburg State University. I have sat on the board of a local church which had a membership of around 300. I have also been elected to serve at the state level of a denomination on their missions committee as treasurer for over five years.
Through these expereinces I have learned that a lot of church boards, pastors, and church treasurers simply have not been taught all of the things which they need to be the most effective in their positions when it comes to facing an audit. Audits can be done by the IRS, Dept of Labor, OSHA, etc.
God has placed a desire in my heart to come alongside the local church to assist them in the areas of: accounting, pastoral tax preparation, policies and procedures, and security. My goal is to work with the pastor, church board and treasure to provide them with the tools, if any, which they are missing. Teaching them better practices and procedures while also showing them that we need to start thinking proactively in order to prepare our churches for the challenging times which I believe we are heading into.
I believe as the Church we need to set the example of honesty and integrity while being above reproach in morality and ethics. I believe that the Pastor, board, treasure, etc. are elected/hired to serve the church not to rule over them. We should have an open books approach with our finances; be willing to provide the financial state of the church to anyone who inquires. People who give to the church have a right to see how the church is managing their finances.
